What is Ideology? This word has two parts—Idea and –logy. Logy comes from the Greek word, logos, meaning the "study of" something. Idea has a different meaning from the perspective of mysticism or spirituality. Normally a person might say, “I have an idea. Let’s go for a holiday in some nice place.” However Idea from a purely spiritual perspective is something that cannot be defined because the Ultimate Goal is beyond mind’s capacity. So the study of that which is beyond the mind is Ideology and the process for achieving oneness with that state is meditation. (http://www.dadaprana.com/guided-meditation.html) Human beings are moving from birth to birth along a path which flows from one expanded state to another until final achievement.
Humans have three levels of mental process—instinct, intellect and intuition. Some humans are fully engrossed in their instinctual mind. Instinct is not learned, it is inborn. For example the instinct of the baby to suck milk. No one can say that a baby is inferior or superior, high or low. A baby is just a baby struggling with his or her body to be able to crawl, sit up or walk. The baby is moving along its own path.
At a certain point the baby is called a child and is sent to school to learn from a person who has a more developed mind or intellect. As a child comes in contact with an older person the intellect is developed. Intellect is the mind that knows, AND also knows how it knows. The intellect compares contrasts and synthesizes. The person using his or her intellect is not judged as good or bad, high or low. Each of us is challenged by other intellects so that there is another comparison, contrast and synthesis. This person is also in the flow of humanity, moving toward awareness, a realization of the Ultimate Goal, or Idea.
Intuition is developed by meditation. How do I know that my intuition is developed? Instinct is developed by physical struggle. Intellect is refined by psychic clash, the clash of thoughts and ideas in the ordinary sense. Intuition is developed by longing for the Great, the Infinite, the Divine. So the stronger my longing for the Infinite the more developed is my intuition. (http://www.dadaprana.com/workshop-on-samadhi.html) The mind is expanding to greater and greater insights resulting in large heartedness, inclusion and compassion.
One of the characteristics of Capitalism is expressed in advertising. My soap is better than your soap, my brand is better than your brand. This attitude has spread to all facets of life. My family, my country, my culture, my spiritual or religious practice is better than yours. From a spiritual perspective all are moving in the flow of Ideology. Where I am ‘here and now’ is the expression of my own personal development. It is not better or worse, higher or lower. It just is what it is. I am a special expression of humanity in this moment. I am moving along my own path and on my path I encounter so many teachers, Gurus, adepts, experiences persons, people who have achieved what I endeavor to achieve.
There are two very important ingredients on this path—environment and encouragement. From the time of the first human till the present day, our environment has been developing, becoming more conducive to the flow of human endeavor. I have more time to practice spiritual, mystical practices because I have more time and nourishment from my environment to support my physical and psychic existence. Also when I am encouraged by my environment to move along my own path surmounting whatever obstacles come in my way without shame or guilt, then I expand. My mind becomes bigger. When I am confronted by judgment which shames me or criticism which points fingers at me, then I shrink and hesitate to be courageous in my movement.
It is difficult to move along a path alone. It is so much easier when there is a companion. This is the reason that people have partners and make commitments to stay together in life. I think that having a Spiritual Guide is a spiritual commitment to stay together till I reach my spiritual goal. Being with my Spiritual Guide who is my companion makes my movement easier, softens the bumps in the road. In my spiritual practice surrender means giving myself, trusting a person or practice that opens me and expands my mind. I surrender to my Spiritual Guide, Guru. I trust my Guru to walk with me along the path of realization. It is a relationship of Love. I am not alone.
So we have billions of humans on this planet and each of them is on their own path to that Inexplicable Idea. We are all here together, moving. Since we have been in a capitalist environment we tend to see ourselves in competition. “My spiritual path is better than yours.” However we are now moving into a new way of thinking. I move along my path learning, expanding, synthesizing on the way. Until I learn what I need to learn from this experience in the present moment, I may continue to perform the same actions over and over again. Once a lesson is absorbed and becomes part of my being, I move on to the next lesson, to the next level of expansion. People can communicate ideas, practices, thoughts, but ultimately, it is me who needs to experience and digest the new realization so that I can move on to the next level.
So I am not alone. I have my Guru traveling the path with me. And I have a social network that supports me as I rise and fall in my movement towards a complete realization of the Idea, my spiritual Goal. When I expand my awareness of my relationship with the Divine and when I work together with others to make the environment more and more conducive for more highly developed minds, those highly developed minds have the opportunity to be born into an environment more conducive to their further evolution toward Pure Consciousness.
Every living being in this universe is moving toward the same goal of infinite peace and happiness. Each one of us needs the proper environment to reach this goal. The people ahead of me are preparing a new environment into which I am born so that my unique expression can develop and move on to a greater more expanded being. And my experience and expansion is preparing the environment for the next generation to express themselves and expand to another level of being. So we are helping each other to achieve the common goal. It is as though my experience or my foot print, my mind print makes it easier for a more developed mind to enter the world. The long line of humanity is moving along an Ideological path, each one following behind the one in front and preparing the way for the one behind.
If as I move along this path if I think that my attainment is the final word and that those who are younger than me or less experienced than me should only follow what I say or think then in some way I block their psycho-spiritual movement. I am here to prepare the way for the coming of more advanced souls to enter this creation and to make a better world based on collective welfare, inclusion and compassion. Human life is indeed a flow of humanity moving together toward a common goal.
